This is a great lens for portraits or street photography. It is able to separate the subject and the background in a well manner as the bokeh is intense at f1.4. However it is not a lens for videos because the focus motor is loud and the camera picks up the vibrations from the lens when focusing. For videos with a 50mm I would suggest the 50mm f1.8 mark 2. Though the 50mm f1.4 is an old lens, it still captures some amazing photos, highly durable and well built.
